2019 Brandlin Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Mount Veeder, Napa Valley
Bradlin Estate is perched atop the rocky mountainous slopes of the Mayacamas Range of Mt. Veeder in Napa Valley. In the 1870’s, the Brandlin family settled in this mountainous terroir and by 1926, Henry Brandlin had planted the first vineyards within this region. Today, Brandlin Estate consists of 49 acres of land is part of the Cuvaison portfolio with winemaking under the guidance of Steve Rogstad.
A modest four barrels are produced of this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Mt. Veeder. In the glass the wine reveals an inky, opaque color revealing its underlying power and concentration. There is a subtle floral lift of lavender and dried herbs with a whisper of sandalwood. Ripe black currants, crushed mulberry and boysenberry confit are framed with dark mocha shavings, powdered graphite and finely crushed rocks. Secondary flavors and layers of complexity emerge in the glass over time with elements of star anise and espresso. The tannins are ripe and nicely polished with rounded edges. The silky texture of this wine lingers on the palate for minutes, leaving a lasting impression. This is a masterful expression of a Mt Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon of significant pedigree. Congrats to Steve Rogstad and his team.
