2017 Willful Winemakers Cuvee Pinot Noir

With a reputation of having a strong work ethic and independent spirit, Owner/winemaker Pam Walden studied English literature in her native UK and worked in television production for several years. Winemaking found Pam in 1996, through a roundabout tale of love and adventure that began in France. Pam’s passion is the heart of all aspects of Willful Wine Company. Pam is one of the few female winemakers in this renowned Pinot Noir region of Willamette Valley and owner of her own company.

The Willful Winemakers Cuvee is a selection of the best 5 barrels in the cellar. 100% Pommard clone from older vines in the Dundee Hills, Ribbon Ridge, and the Eola-Emity Hills AVA. This well-made Pinot Noir shows purity in color and aromatics from the region, combining old and new world winemaking. In the glass the color is clear red ruby. The aromas are fresh and perfumed showing a mixture of red and blue fruit and exotic spices along with notes of underbrush, smoke, and pepper. The palate is medium bodied but packed with flavor. Prominent are bright red fruit flavors, sweet juicy tannins and a slight minerality that is laced throughout the core. The persistent floral and spice notes carry through to a harmonious finish. I shared this wine with friends at a dinner. It is an alluring, harmonious and classic Willamette Valley Pinot Noir.
