2018 Chateau De La Cree Volnay Premier Cru Clos Des Angles

The historic Chateau de la Cree in Santenay, Burgundy, dates back to the 15th century when it was owned by Nicolas Rolin, founder of the legendary Hospices de Beaune.

In 2015, Ken and Grace Evenstad, owners of Domaine Serene in Oregon, bought Chateau de la Cree in a turnabout from Burgundy vintners buying vineyards in Oregon. It was a realization of their dream to make Pinot Noir in Burgundy. Recently, they added to the dream, acquiring control of Domaine Christian Confuron in Vougeot with Grand Cru holdings in Bonnes Mares and Clos de Vougeot ,as well as Premier Cru and Village holdings in the Cote de Nuits.

The 2018 Chateau de la Cree Volnay Premier Cru Clos de Angles makes a grand entrance with aromas that exceed the usual fragrant expectations of Volnay. Perfumed cherries, raspberries, rose petals and sandalwood fill the glass. Foreshadowed by the aromas, its seductive flavors are full and rounded. With abundant smooth tannins and a lengthy finish, it will age gracefully if you can refrain from enjoying now.
