2019 Benovia Tilton Hill Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

A native of the Russian River Valley, co-owner Mike Sullivan is the winemaker, intellect and driving force behind this winery. After stints at Chateau St. Jean, Landmark and Chappellet wineries, Mike garnered honors for his achievements at Hartford Winery. With their first commercial release in 2006, Benovia excels in handcrafting small lots of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from 72 acres of prime vineyards. I’ve met with Mike on several occasions, and he is passionate and extremely focused on crafting impressive wines that represent a sense of place.

This 12-acre parcel is situated on one of the coolest estate vineyards in the town of Freestone. Consisting of heritage and Pommard clones, this wine is deeply ruby with a bouquet of field flowers, rose petals and a potpourri of wild spices. A concentrated and balanced core of framboise, black raspberry foam and mulberry coat the palate. Everything is well balanced with a backbone of fresh acidity. This wine is about mouth-feel and textural complexity as it gracefully lingers with a satiny finish. This is a memorable achievement by Mike Sullivan.
