2020 J de Villobois Pouilly Fume

Domaine J de Villabois is a family run winery founded by Joost and Miguela de Willebois. They are among the leading producers of Sauvignon Blanc with vineyards in the Upper and Middle Loire Valley.

This Sauvignon Blanc is an excellent example of this vibrant wine from France’s “Garden”, the Loire Valley. The grapes come from Pouilly-sur-Loire, in the Nièvre département toward the eastern end of the Loire Valley. Displaying aromatic notes of lemon, grapefruit, and hints of honeydew melon, with a bit of tarragon and dill laid on for good measure. The flavors of the wine happily followed the aromatics, with an additional surprise of a honey-like richness in the mid-palate.

Color: Pale straw, with greenish highlights.

Aromatics: Lemon, grapefruit, and hints of honeydew melon, hints of tarragon and dill.

Taste Profile: Crisp, with the tartness somewhat offset by an impression of honey on the mid-palate

Food Pairings: Lighter fare, especially fresh-water fish such as trout, perch, etc. Also, a good choice with light appetizers such as shrimp, crab, and mollusks (for example: snails, mussels, clams, and/or oysters).
