The 2020 Rombauer Twin Rivers Zinfandel is a powerful expression of Zinfandel from California. El Dorado Vineyard is situated 1,650 feet above sea level in the Sierra Foothills. Its sandy soils and high elevation are ideal for Zinfandel, bringing warm days and cool nights. This wine is a lovely ruby red with a bright hue. The aromas are lovely, floral, layered and complex with notes of blackberries, black cherry, baking spices, a hint of anise and oak. Within the core are layers of dense ripe fruit with juicy tannins that frame the palate while giving the wine structure and roundness. The finish is long and very satisfying that lingers for minutes. I tasted this wine the next day with similar results, but it did soften slightly and gain more creaminess on the palate, which indicates that the wine will age beautifully. This Zinfandel can be totally enjoyed on its own, but would pair nicely with a marbled grilled rib eye steak.
