2021 Feudo Maccari Olli Grillo DOC

The Feudo Maccari winery lies just over a mile from the sea at the southern tip of Sicily. It basks in a dry, sun drenched climate verging on torrid in the summer months. Mediterranean winds moderate the climate and aerate the clusters, although some irrigation is required during the hot, dry season. The vineyards lie 240 feet above sea level on southerly exposed slopes. The predominant volcanic soil profile is mixed in a few areas with white sand and chalk deposits. Winemaker Antonio Moretti Cuseri immediately focused on native grapes such as Nero d'Avola, Grillo and Moscato di Noto. On the international side, he cultivates Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, capable of giving a fruity elegance and a rich minerality.
The diversity of the estate's soil and climatic conditions dictates that cultivation and winemaking follow the demands of the environment and pursuit of quality. Yields are restricted. At harvest the clusters are handpicked, sorted, destemmed, and put into a conveyor belt apparatus, which breaks the skins rather than crushes the berries.

The "Olli" Grillo by Feudo Maccari is a Sicilian white wine with a fresh, Mediterranean stamp that is aged for five months in steel containers. Grillo’s color recalls a medium straw yellow with beautiful gold shades that glisten in the glass. On the nose, the wine releases aromas of lemon zest, white fruit, chamomile, a hint of grass and herbs. On the palate, each sip is elegant, pleasantly savory and soft. It reveals rich fresh acidity, a lovely texture and minerality in tandem leading to a delicious mouthwatering finish. The Olli Grillo represents one of the amazing values of this producer and is a crowd-pleaser white wine from Sicily.
