2021 Flora Springs Out of Sight Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
Flora Springs Winery, founded in 1978, is a family-owned estate in the heart of Napa Valley. The winery's name pays homage to Flora Komes, the matriarch of the Komes family, and to the natural springs that nourish its vineyards.
Needing a place to retire, Jerry and Flora Komes purchased the historic estate in St. Helena in the 1970s, restoring the 19th-century stone winery on the property. Together with their son John Komes and his wife Carrie, they established Flora Springs, blending their love for wine, family, and land stewardship. Flora Springs became particularly renowned for its single-vineyard Cabernets, including its flagship Trilogy blend, first released in 1984. By 2019, the family sold some vineyards and the original winery deciding to build a new, smaller facility.
The grapes for the Out of Sight bottling are sourced from two blocks along the Vaca Range. This vineyard is situated between the Coombsville and Atlas Peak Appellations resting on the southeastern slopes of Napa Valley.
This 100% multi-clone Cabernet Sauvignon has an intense garnet color with a crimson rim. The bright aromatics are restrained at this early stage of evolution with elements of dusty earth and star anise in the background. The inner core speaks to the soul and identity of this wine with lush black fruits caressing the palate intertwined with dried herbs, tanned leather, graphite and a whisper of vanilla. The wine is balanced with harmonious acidity and the tannins are firm, yet silky. The 2021 Out of Sight Cabernet Sauvignon offers a true sense of place for those willing to explore.
