2021 J Lohr Cuvee Pom, Paso Robles
The entire J Lohr Cuvee series is a stunning interpretation of the wines from the regional appellations of Bordeaux. The majority of this deeply saturated blend is Merlot with the addition of some Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. Being an advocate of the wines from Bordeaux, I am always amazed by the unique terroir expression of this bottling and how much it imitates the personality of the wines from Pomerol.
Sourced from the Paso Robles AVA, this wine is a blend of 81% Merlot and 19% Malbec. The J Lohr Cuvee Pom is a respectful nod to the wines from Bordeaux’s Right Bank of Pomerol. The radiant opaque hue unveils an interplay of black and blue fruit aromas with a whisper of sage. It has a silky, pillowy entrance of black plum preserves and raspberry coulis etched with brown spices and layer of marzipan. Wrapped around the concentrated, satiny fruit core is a sumptuous layer of creamy molten chocolate. The tannins are ripe and rounded without any edges. This wine is incredibly luxurious on the palate and you will resist putting the glass down until you have finished the entire bottle on your own. One of my consistent favorites from the winemaking team at J Lohr Winery.
