2021 Sangiacomo Sonoma Coast Chardonnay
Until recently, I had never veered far from the traditional wine road paths within Russian River Valley. I was introduced to Steve Sangiacomo of Sangiacomo Vineyards by a close friend. At once, I realized the importance of this family’s contributions, devotion and stewardship to the evolution and advancement of wine growing in Sonoma.
This Sonoma Coast offering is part of the Sangiacomo Appellation series highlighting their cool climate sites in Carneros and the Petaluma Gap. This wine is sourced from multiple vineyards within Sonoma Coast and aged sur lie in French Oak barrels (30% new).
This wine unveils a yellow-green hue with an inviting bouquet of gardenia and exotic flowers. Undertones of Bartlett Pear, Meyer Lemon and honeysuckle fruits rise gracefully from within the glass along with a delicate hint of saline minerality and a layer vanilla cream. The amount of freshness in this wine is nicely balanced by soft acidity while also maintaining a sense of elegance. This wine has a finish that lingers for minutes and is delightfully approachable upon opening.
