2022 Iris Vineyards Pinot Gris, Willamette Valley

Nestled in southern Willamette Valley, twenty minutes southwest of Eugene, Oregon, Iris Vineyards produces world-class Oregon wine from grapes grown at their Chalice Vineyard. The cool climate in the foothills of the Oregon Coast allows the grapes to mature slowly while maintaining the proper acid balance that they deem as essential for producing the finest Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, and Chardonnay.

There is so much to like and appreciate about how well this wine is made by the winemaking team led by Aaron Lieberman. The Iris Vineyard Pinot Gris is fermented 100% in stainless steel tanks. Despite a modest 12.3% alcohol this light-weight wine packs a pleasing punch! The color is a medium golden hue. The aromas lead to more stone fruit, pear and peach, notes of lemon curd, lime zest, and wet stone. On the palate the creamy texture was a pleasant surprise. The acidity is more gripping and carries to a lingering finish of spiced cinnamon and candied lemon. The Iris Pinot Gris is a versatile wine, enjoyable as a stand alone aperitif on a warm summer day, but equally well suited to cut through a wide range of flavors from spicy Asian dishes to a pasta with tomato basil.
