2022 Walter Scott X Novo Chardonnay, Willamette Valley

Walter Scott Wines was started in 2008 by Winemaker Ken Pahlow and Advanced Sommelier Erica Landon after years of living, studying and working within the Oregon wine industry. The team specializes in Oregon Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from exceptional vineyards within the Willamette Valley with a focus on the Eola-Amity Hills AVA. The winery is situated in the Eola-Amity Hills overlooking neighboring vineyards to the East.

Here’s a wine that is ready to go toe-to-toe with the best white Burgundies out there. From a small vineyard in Eola-Amity, X Novo is a high-density planting of thoroughly diverse mixed clones (up to 20 different Chardonnay selections). It is fermented and matured in 80% new, 350- and 500-liter barrels for 12 months and finished with three months in stainless steel. In the glass the color reveals medium yellow with green straw hues. Aromas of perfumed white flowers, candied lemon, juicy ripe pear, nutty oak character, a hint of flint minerality adds to the layers of complexity this wine carries. There is a vibrant energy to this Chardonnay that commands your attention. The palate is layered with mouthwatering citrus, minerality and racy acidity that take this wine to a whole other level. The flavors are precise and clean. The finish is mouthwatering, balanced and gorgeous in every way. The Walter Scott X Novo Chardonnay is stunning and unfortunately very limited in availability. Grab your decanter, your best wineglass and enjoy! This Chardonnay will age beautifully. You’ll wish you had a second bottle to open in 5 – 10 years.
