2023 Clarice Rosella’s Vineyard Pinot Noir

This is among my favorite vineyards from the Santa Lucia Highlands because of its gorgeous red fruit definition and charming personality. Today, the Clarice wines are made using whole cluster fermentation and with very few additions or other winemaking techniques. Adam believes “Clarice Pinot Noirs are some of the best wines of my 30-year career and are designed to be vin de garde wines that will benefit with time in the cellar.”

The dark ruby hue of this wine shimmers in the glass. It unfurls with aromas of dried rose petals and candied flowers. It is deeply layered and savory pushing the limit into sweet, exotic undertones of wild strawberry preserves, crushed pomegranate, dark chocolate shavings, Darjeeling tea and warm baking spices. The mid-palate is expansive yet weightless, carried by a vein of vibrant acidity that lends energy and finesse. There is a streak of coastal salinity and finely chiseled chalk that adds another dimension and complexity to the wine. Although thoroughly satisfying now, it is destined for more gratification over time.
